Expressen live report
2024
BONNIER NEWS
The project redesigned Expressen's live coverage widget, improving flexibility and usability. Collaborating with stakeholders, I gathered requirements, conducted competitor analysis, and tested prototypes for a better user experience during live events.

Overview and Responsibility
The purpose of this project was to take visual and technical ownership of the live coverage widget found in specific articles on Expressen’s website. This widget provides live updates on ongoing events, such as the football World Cup. The feed mostly includes written updates, but also supports images, videos, and third-party widgets.
While the underlying service was provided by a third party with interface limitations, the goal was to redesign the interface to offer a more flexible and tailored experience for both users and reporters.
Design process
The process started with gathering business requirements and holding kickoff sessions with stakeholders to clarify the vision for the new live coverage service, with a focus on desired features. I also analyzed the service from both user and reporter perspectives, emphasizing flexibility to support different types of events and stories.
A competitor analysis of other news providers’ live reporting helped identify relevant patterns while keeping the solution tailored to Expressen. Finally, qualitative user research using an unmoderated tool was conducted to validate the design and inform further improvements.

Expression
The design had to move beyond the limitations of the third-party service, giving Expressen full control over how the live coverage appeared and functioned. The key focus was to ensure that the live updates were clear, engaging, and adaptable to various types of events. This required balancing flexibility in the presentation while maintaining a cohesive user experience across all types of live coverage.

UI design
After defining business requirements and completing the competitor analysis, I created wireframes for key user scenarios to ensure clear and intuitive flows. Stakeholder feedback was continuously incorporated to refine and align the design.
I then built an interactive prototype and conducted guerrilla testing with external users, followed by further iteration and validation through Useberry. To support development, I produced detailed Figma specifications covering layout, behavior, and measurements, and collaborated closely with developers throughout implementation to resolve issues efficiently.

Summary
The design was showcased several times throughout the project to the development team and managers at Expressen Tech. The project successfully gave Expressen greater control over the live coverage widget, improving both the visual and functional aspects of the service. This redesign provided a more engaging and flexible live update experience, better aligning with both user and business needs.
